Gold - Non-fiction 2014
Adrian Levy & Cathy Scott-Clark
An impressively researched account of how ten Pakistani farm-boys were trained to assault the Indian city of Mumbai, and seize the Taj hotel in November 2008. They were armed with AK-47s, pistols a huge quantity of ammunition, explosives and timers – and mobile telephones. They rampaged through the hotel, shooting wildly, killing as they wished, and setting fire to the top floor. The authors have interviewed guests and staff who survived, and produced a taut blow-by-blow, hour-by-hour, thriller of three days of terror.
