Byte The Book – Valued Voices: How Much is Your Writing Worth?

What’s it all about?: Join us for the first of our events at the beautiful Home House (the site of the original Courtauld Institute). Our panel will be discussing the findings of ALCS’ Author Earnings Survey and asking such questions as, how much do authors really earn and what can authors to do augment their incomes? You can read more on their report via the following links on their site here and here and here.

Speakers: Tom Chatfield (broadcaster, author and tech philosopher) will chair the discussion and he’ll be joined by Richard Charkin (publisher), Laxmi Hariharan (independent author) and Tammy Cohen aka Rachel Rhys (traditionally published author).

Sponsors: The Authors Licensing Collecting Society (ALCS) make sure writers are paid what’s due to them when people use their work. They collect money from all over the world, then pay it to their members. So far they’ve paid a total of £450 million. They also campaign to ensure writers’ rights are recognised and rewarded, and teach people what copyright is all about. They have around 95,000 members and are a not-for-profit organisation. They were started by writers, for writers, and have been going since 1977. You can join ALCS on their site here or get in touch with them on +44 (0) 20 7264 5700 or via alcs@alcs.co.uk for more information.
