2020 is the one-hundredth anniversary of Agatha Christie’s first book, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, which helped usher in the age of the modern murder mystery.  In honour of ‘the queen of crime’, this year’s Festival will include an entire day of events dedicated to the crime fiction genre.

Do you write crime fiction?  Are you a fan of writers such as P.D James, Anthony Horowitz and Val McDermid? Then these are events you don’t want to miss!

10am: Crime Fiction as Fairytale

Author of the Cotswold Mysteries and creator of the popular detective Den Cooper, Rebecca Tope will establish a link between the modern whodunit and ancient tales and legends.

11.15am: You’ll Die Laughing

Olga Wojtas, whose debut novel was longlisted for the Comedy Women in Print Prize 2019, argues that humour can be a key element in the enjoyment of cosy crime.

1.30pm: The Art of the Whodunit

Crime guru and award-winning writer Martin Edwards, author of the Lake District Mysteries featuring detective-historian Daniel Kind, discusses what makes the perfect whodunit. STOP PRESS: Martin has just won the CWA Diamond Dagger for lifetime achievement and his contribution to crime writing.

2.45pm: Making Crime Pay – Getting Published

Agent, editor and crime author Allan Guthrie will offer industry-insider tips and tricks to help navigate the current marketplace.

4pm: Crime Panel Discussion and Q&A

Martin Edwards joins Rebecca, Olga and Allan to debate all things crime-writing related. Bring your questions for the panel to answer!
