It is 1878, and Sherlock Holmes has just launched his career as a consulting detective.
A wealthy widow Mrs Beauregard, is considering investing most of her considerable assets in a new company called Baumann Motors Ltd. The motor promises to change the world by generating power from just air and water, using the theoretical etheric force. But it has not been tested, and Mrs Beauregard has fallen for the charm of its inventor.
Holmes and his surgeon friend Stamford attend a demonstration to uncover the motor’s secrets, but soon they are involved in an even deadlier mystery, putting their lives at risk.
