Alanna Knight was born and educated on Tyneside. Married a scientist and moved to Aberdeen, having two sons. Widowed she now lives in Edinburgh, the setting for her Victorian Inspector Faro series (19 books) and his daughter Rose McQuinn (9 books).
Since publication of her first award-winning novel Legend of the Loch in 1968 she has written more than seventy books. Her non fiction include 3 on Robert Louis Stevenson (she is an authority on this writer) also historical novels, biographies, numerous short stories, radio documentaries and stage plays,She is a member the Society of Authors, Scottish Crime Writers’ Association, a founding member and Hon President of the Scottish Association of Writers, Hon President of the Edinburgh Writers Club. Her MBE is for services to literature.
