Peter J Charles writes British crime and intelligence thrillers with a strong procedural edge.

Before becoming an author, he served in the Royal Air Force and spent twenty years as a police officer, including nine years as a detective on the Surrey Drug Squad. His work included conventional and electronic surveillance, criminal intelligence, informant handling and undercover operations.

That experience gives the Tom Kessler Thrillers their grounded tradecraft, complex characters and moral grey areas. Beginning with A Detective’s Dilemma, the series follows Detective Constable Tom Kessler from street-level policing into intelligence work, espionage and geopolitical operations.

The series currently comprises five novels: A Detective’s Dilemma, A Minister’s Downfall, A Hidden Enemy, A Shared Danger and A Reluctant Asset. A sixth Tom Kessler thriller, A Dangerous Alliance, is in progress. The first four books are also published in Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian and German.

Peter lives near Winchester in Hampshire. When he is not writing, he enjoys walking in the countryside, fly fishing and watching rugby.
