Cassandra Clark
- Clark is the author of a 12-book medieval mystery series featuring nun sleuth Hildegard of Meaux set during the turbulent reign of King Richard II.
Hildegard, a young widow, chooses to join the powerful Cistercian Order and is soon embroiled in the plots and counter plots of the war-mongering barons as they attempt to control the under-age king. Starting with HANGMAN BLIND (St Martins Press) and ending with MURDER MOST ROYAL each book can be read as a stand-alone with Hildegard and a regular group of monks militant headed by the ambiguous and charismatic abbot de Courcy continuing throughout in parallel with the fate of the doomed king.
Clark’s second series THE BROKEN KINGDOM deals with the historical facts as we know them leading to the regicide when Lancastrian spy, friar Rodric Chandler, is drawn into the plot to repress free speech and the introduction of the burning law of 1401 to stifle dissent.
