Colin Green
Formerly a pupil of King Edward V1 School 1969-76, after O-levels there was an opportunity to join the police, but a decision was made to continue on into the 6th form. Academic studies were probably secondary to the school sports of Rugby and Cricket. After A- levels I attended what was Borough Road College, London. A teacher training establishment specialising in Physical Education.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree and taught at Glyn School, near Epsom, before returning north some five years or so later with a job at Cramlington High School. It was in April 1985 that I had a complete career change and joined Northumbria Police. Thoroughly enjoyed my time as a police officer and served in numerous departments, performing several different roles before retirement as a Chief Inspector.
Married to Ruth I have three children from a previous marriage,Josh,Tom and Loren, who all reside in and around London. Blessed with four grandchildren currently, with another two expected imminently!
Sport has always played a major role in my life and I played rugby at Wasps, Richmond and Morpeth RFC, representing both Middlesex and Northumberland along the way. I’m still actively involved with Morpeth rugby club writing match reports under the pseudonym of Scoop! During the summer months I played cricket for Ponteland, Cheam, Benwell Hill and Morpeth. I now play regular, poor golf at Morpeth Golf Club.
I always enjoyed writing. At school, written work would always be lengthy but never contained the relevant detail! Upon retiring from the police I undertook a creative writing course and finally completed my first novel, TRUST which was self published. PROOF and RESOLVE have followed, with my fourth book GUN due to be released around the time of the literary festival. The books are part of a series that feature retired DCI Geoff Sutton, who as a civilian employee with the force, finds himself involved in some high profile, fast moving, policing operations. On a domestic front Sutton regularly meets with his lifelong mates, plays golf and as a group they remain regular spectators at the local amateur rugby club!
