Melinda Mullet
It started with Nancy Drew, Scooby Doo and the Famous Five, then Marple, Poirot, Dalgliesh and Lynley. My youthful fascination with crime eventually led me to a law degree, and I became a specialist in communications, media and entertainment law working in the US and the UK.
On holiday I frequently found myself following my whisky collecting husband from one Scottish distillery tour to another. Somewhere in the blur of grain and water and mash it occurred to me that a bubbling vat of whisky would be a perfect place to find a body. Not my husband’s I hasten to add, but this idea gave birth to the Whisky Business Mystery series. As I began to write I realized that a profession in the law was interesting in its own way but would never hold a candle to the joy of solving puzzles –– uncovering the intricate story that lies between victim and killer.
Six books later I am taking a break from the Whisky series to foray into another childhood fascination, longboats on the London canals. I’ve always dreamed of escaping to one, but no amount of Marie Kondoing will get the flotsam and jetsam of my life to fit into a 450 square foot houseboat. Instead, I content myself with housing my ghostwriting protagonist on board the Writer’s Revenge as she solves mysteries from her mooring along Regent’s Canal. Watch for A Ghostwriter’s Guide to Murder coming in July 2025.
In my “spare” time, I am a travel junkie, and a life-long advocate for children’s literacy causes. When I’m not in the UK, I live just outside Washington, DC with my whisky-besotted husband and two wild Covid canines named Bailey and Captain Jack.
