Like many others of you, I suspect, I cut my crime writing teeth on the golden age classics. I do love more contemporary crime novels – of course, I do, their development has taken some intriguing and dazzling detours. However, I have an abiding fondness for the vintage which may be part of the reason  I set my Edith Horton mysteries in the 1930s, in Yorkshire and my new series, in 1950s rural Ireland.
