William Burton McCormick
William Burton McCormick writes thriller fiction, both historical and modern, set mainly in Eastern Europe. His work has appeared in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, The Saturday Evening Post, Black Mask, Sherlock Holmes Mystery Magazine and the CWA Anthology of Short Stores: Mystery Tour. He is a graduate of the Creative Writing Programme at the University of Manchester and studied Russian language and history at Moscow State University. A world traveler, William has lived in seven countries including Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Ukraine. He was elected a Hawthornden Writing Fellow in Scotland in 2013.
William’s novel of revolution in the Baltic States, Lenin’s Harem (Lume Books) was published in both English and Latvian. It became the first work of fiction ever added to the Latvian War Museum’s permanent library in Riga.
His thriller novel KGB Banker (cowritten with real-life whistleblower John Christmas) was released in September 2021 by Milford House Press. His novella A STRANGER FROM THE STORM was published in paperback and e-book by Mannison Press in early November 2021. His Siberian manor house mystery novella HOUSE OF TIGERS was published in e-book in August 2022.

William Burton McCormick is an Edgar Award nominated short story writer, a five-time Derringer Award finalist, 2020 Shamus Award finalist, 2020 Claymore Award finalist, 2022 Thriller Award finalist, 2022 Silver Falchion Award finalist, placed second in the 2022 Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine Readers Poll and won a Bronze Medal in the 2022 Coffee Pot Book Club’s Book of the Year awards.
