Best-selling crime novelist John Dean is to run an Introduction to Crime Fiction creative writing workshop. John, author of 17 novels, including the recently-published Death List, is published by London-based The Book Folks and is the creator of DCI John Blizzard and DCI Jack Harris. The workshop will examine how to:

* Create a strong story, including plotting

* Create a strong sense of place

* Create strong characters

* Make the villain real

* Grab the reader from the start

* Keep the story moving

The event is part of National Crime Reading Month and Darlington Arts Festival.
