Society of Authors: Why Women Love Crime Fiction
The Bristol Group of the Society of Authors are hosting an online event on Friday 21 May from 12pm featuring a talk by Professor Helen Taylor on why women love crime fiction.
During lockdown, many people have turned to fiction, and crime fiction – already the most commercially successful and popular literary genre – has seen surging sales. Although traditionally romance was most often associated with female readers, and crime with male, it’s now reported that 65-80% crime fiction is read by women, with older women most avidly choosing violent scenarios. In this discussion, Helen Taylor will suggest why women turn to this genre, and discuss how crime writing has evolved to address female readers’ concerns.
The event is free to attend and open to all. More details and registration are here.
