Night Call and Other Stories: Tales of murder and mystery
P.J. Quinn
Works of: Fiction
Night Call and Other Stories is a collection of eighteen tales of murder and mystery, some new, some previously published in a wide range of journals, or broadcast on local radio and websites. They are set in eighteen different times and places, but all are mysteries, or mysterious. Unexpected things happen. Past and present blur. Morris dancing can conceal a murder, gardeners disappear, ants invade houses. Apparently normal events slide into the supernatural. Ghosts of victims can stare back from a pool or appear beside a bed. Sometimes it seems even the future can be known. A rookie police constable is helped by a girl who has out of body experiences.
As in their DI Ambrose novels, Pauline and Jo are interested in character and motive as well as the development of plot. Each story creates its own world, often with a strong sense of place and period, or an imagined future.
