Detective Kate is on a creative writing course in a plush Mexican resort and is taking a break to sunbathe on the beach when she gets an anonymous text: Hi Kate, Are your detective skills as good as your boobs? Later that night, someone breaks into her hotel room and rifles through her draft novel, following which a woman plunges to her death from the balcony above and Kate receives a further text, suggesting the woman died in line with her plot. Unnerved, she returns home on the next flight, only to receive a third text indicating that the mystery texter has followed her home and is watching her. Even worse, he seems to know where she works, where she lives and every move she makes.

When she is subsequently called in to investigate a series of grisly local murders, it then transpires that her watcher is not only responsible but has ensnared her in a deadly game in which he is determined to ensure that her professional reputation is completely destroyed through failure. She is left with no option but to stay one step ahead of him. Because if she loses the game, she is dead…
