Christina Koning
Christina Koning is an award-winning author, whose second novel, Undiscovered Country (1997), won the Encore Award and was long-listed for the Orange Prize. She worked as a journalist during the 1990s and early 2000s, reviewing fiction for The Guardian and The Times, and writing features on travel. She also taught creative writing at Kellogg College, Oxford, Birkbeck, University of London, and Madingley Hall, University of Cambridge. From 2013 to 2015, she was Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Newnham College, Cambridge. She edited the RLF’s magazine, Collected from 2016 to 2021 and has twice been a judge for the Society of Authors’ McKitterick Prize.
Her published work includes five works of literary fiction — A Mild Suicide (LimeTree/Methuen, 1992) – short-listed David Higham Prize for Fiction 1992; Undiscovered Country (Viking/Penguin, 1997) – Encore Award 1999, long-listed Orange Prize, 1999; Fabulous Time (Viking/Penguin, 2000) – Society of Authors’ Travelling Scholarship 2001; The Dark Tower (Arbuthnot Books, 2010); and Variable Stars (Arbuthnot Books, 2011).
Her crime fiction includes the Blind Detective series, set between the late 1920s and 1940s, and featuring a blinded veteran of the First World War, Frederick Rowlands, as the sleuth. Those published so far include: Line of Sight (Arbuthnot Books, 2014; republished as The Blind Detective, Allison & Busby, 2023); Game of Chance (Arbuthnot Books, 2015; republished as Murder in Regent’s Park, Allison & Busby, 2023); Time of Flight (Arbuthnot Books, 2016; republished as Murder at Hendon Aerodrome, Allison & Busby, 2023); Out of Shot (Arbuthnot Books, 2017; republished as Murder in Berlin, Allison & Busby, 2023); End of Term (Arbuthnot Books, 2018; republished as Murder in Cambridge, Allison & Busby, 2023); Twist of Fate (Arbuthnot Books, 2021; republished as Murder in Barcelona, Allison & Busby, 2023); Term of Trial (published as Murder in Dublin, Allison & Busby, 2023).
