Howard Matthews

Howard of Warwick bears sole responsibility for the entire medieval crime comedy genre.

With credits for Radio and TV comedy, he was informed by too many publishers and agents that there was no such thing as medieval crime comedy. So, he created his own imprint and published the first Chronicle of Brother Hermitage, which opened the floodgates.

There are now 36 of the things approaching 250,000 sales. Then there are historical fiction titles in which real people flounder about in the great events of the past.

Set firmly around 1066 and the arrival of the Normans, the chronicles have been in the Amazon top 10 and are regular best sellers in the UK and US.

With a background in radio and television comedy, including a BFI prize for drama series, Howard’s creation, The Funny Book Company, publishes online and through the mainstream book trade.

He is also a member of the SOA and Novelists Inc in the USA and talks on self-publishing and comedy writing.
