Robert Murphy
Rob Murphy is the co-writer of To Hunt A Killer, along with the former Detective Superintendent Julie Mackay.
The murder of Melanie Road is one of more than 200 homicides Rob has reported on during his time as a television news correspondent.
His crime podcasts ‘No Strings Attached’ and ‘Catching Melanie’s Killer’ have had more than a million downloads and made the top ten in the Apple Podcast charts – both hitting the top five in the True Crime category.
The Christopher Halliwell killings, the Emile Cilliers parachute murder plot, the Salisbury Poisonings, the honeymoon murder of Anni Dewani, the trial of Penelope Jackson and the trial by media of Christopher Jefferies are just a few of the inquiries he has reported on.
As an investigator, Rob’s inquiries and reporting have included the tasering of a race relations adviser by his own force; his investigation led to the resignation of Wiltshire’s newly-elected Police and Crime Commissioner, and he made international headlines when he discovered a unique lost interview with the graffiti artist Banksy.
Rob is particularly interested by cold cases and has reported on the historic murders of Melanie Hall, Shelley Morgan, Claire Holland & Barry Rubery, and directed an extended TV report about the prosecution of one of the country’s oldest cold case rape convictions.
Rob has won the Royal Television Society’s award for West of England reporter of the year.
