Sometimes reading more like an extensive psychological assessment of the harm caused by a father–son relationship, this intense novel certainly provides food for thought. Our narrator, twelve-year-old Danny, sets out on a rather British road trip with his estranged father, Fran. Their journey starts out with high hopes and expectations but is destined to become very dark, menacing and ultimately tragic.
