As much character study as crime thriller this account of the fatal disintegration of a 20-year relationship takes its time but is wholly engrossing. Harrison presents us with two unpleasant people (Todd and Jodi) we don’t sympathise with but nor can we look away from them. Cleverly structured – the two protagonists tell the story in alternate chapters – the tension builds and builds. Tragic that Ms Harrison died in 2013 whilst working on her second novel.
