Join the Crime Writers’ Association as an Emerging Author – A new type of membership for tomorrow’s writers.
This category encourages new crime writers in their quest to become published authors by welcoming them into the community.

Who is eligible?
- Writers longlisted for the Emerging Author Dagger from 2021 onwards are automatically eligible
- Writers who have completed or are currently enrolled in creative writing courses with a demonstrable interest in crime fiction or non-fiction are also welcome to apply and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis
Cost
Half the price of regular membership: £45/£40 p.a. (depending on your choice of a paper or digital edition of Red Herrings)
Restrictions
- Emerging Author membership lasts one year and is renewable twice for a total of three years
- EAs may not vote on CWA matters or at the AGM
- EAS are ineligible for promotion on official marketing platforms, except at the CWA’s discretion
