Twenty years ago, the quiet village of Tulse End was rocked by the brutal murder of a local contractor and the rape of his daughter, Tania.

Chief Inspector Mike Dexter, who was part of the initial investigation, and is now married to Tania, is devastated to find out that Eddie Challow, the man responsible for the crimes, has been released from the mental hospital without their knowledge.

When a new murder is committed, eerily reminiscent of the first, Dexter is convinced that Challow is the killer. But with the police force desperate to cover up Challow’s release and the investigating officers reluctant to link the deaths, Mike is in a race against time to stop Challow’s acts of terror.
