SCOTLAND YARD CASEBOOK: The Making of the CID 1865-1935
Joan Lock
Works of: Non-fiction, Audiobook
This book covers the fascinating story of the creation of the CID,including the scandal which preceded it, the successes and failures of the new organisation such as the ferocious outbreak of dockland killings in 1869 and the more familiar crimes of the times. She describes Scotland Yard’s gradual, if sometimes tardy acceptance of identification and communication aids. First World War spy and Dear John jealousy murders are followed by the Roaring Twenties and the arrival of the motor car bandits which in turn led to the formation of the Flying Squad and a few women detectives even begin to be tolerated.
