The third novel in the Peter Diamond series finds Diamond and his wife Steph living in West London where he works in a supermarket collecting trolleys. He believes his days as a policeman are long gone. Unknown to him, a murderer he once arrested escapes from Albany Prison and kidnaps the daughter of the Assistant Chief Constable of Bath. No one except Diamond is capable of handling the emergency so he gets the summons to return to his old job. The Summons won the CWA Silver Dagger and was shortlisted for the Mystery Writers of America Edgar award for best novel.
