Brighton in 1882 is the setting of the fourth Sergeant Cribb novel. The voyeuristic Albert Moscrop spends his vacation time peering through a telescope, in particular at one family of holidaymakers. The beautiful Zena Prothero seems to be neglected by her husband. The the whole of Brighton is horrified by the discovery of a murder victim. The local police enlist the help of Scotland Yard and Cribb and Constable Thackeray get a trip to the seaside.
