The eighth of the Sergeant Cribb series sets the Victorian detective his strongest challenge. Miriam Cromer has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to death. The hangman has been booked and it seems nothing can save her. But there is a doubt over her guilt that Cribb is asked to investigate. Waxwork won the Silver Dagger and was the chosen as the pilot episode of the Granada TV series that also launched the long-running PBS series Mystery! in America in 1980.
